CBI Fellowship applicants – For those interested in applying for a CBI fellowship (must be a U.S. citizen, a non-citizen national, or a permanent U.S. resident) please submit as a single PDF directly to Dr. Smith and cc either Tyrone Bullock (if you are a UMBC student) or Dr. Fletcher (if you are a UMB student):
- Cover letter expressing your interest in the CBI NIH-sponsored fellowship. Be sure to highlight your accomplishments and why you think you should be positively considered for the fellowship.
- Current CBI biosketch (see links for a blank biosketch and an example below) plus a separate document that describes in greater detail your research project, its applicability at the chemistry-biology interface, your progress thus far, your future research plans, and your proposed cross-training (5-6 pages). NOTE: DO NOT CHANGE THE FONT OR FORMATTING IN THE BIOSKETCH!
- Your CBI end-of-year survey.
- Current transcripts (unofficial are fine) showing your GPA.
IN ADDITION, please have the following sent to Dr. Smith directly:
- A letter from your PI supporting your nomination and their agreement to support your efforts to fulfill your CBI requirements, including sending you to national and international conferences, as well as carrying out your cross disciplinary training.
- Letters from two (2) other faculty supporting your nomination.
Note: for those reapplying for another year of fellowship funding from the CBI program, you must also submit a similarly updated application package, but you do not need to solicit additional letters of recommendation, except for the letter of support from your PI!
CBI Fellowship Applications are due in full by Friday, May 9th, 2025!
